Thank you for taking the time to review my profile. I have several years experience in the field producing software full time, and a great track record of successful software deployments as well. I currently work full time for a PaaS company, and I spend a great deal of personal time working on software as a hobby as well. I look forward to any work that I would be trusted with.

I am a passionate software developer and really enjoy working in projects with different technologies. I always try to improve my development skills and generate code with the highest quality standards. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my colleges and learning from them. I feel comfortable facing difficult problems and working in high pressure environments. I have more than 7 years working in J2EE environments. The last 3 years I have also been involved in challenging Groovy/Grails, Ruby and Javascript coding projects. XP and Agile are the best ways I have found to carry my job out, yet I am still looking for better ones. I usually code using TDD, trying to bring Continuous Integration/Testing best practices into my code. I have been involved in projects with different kinds of databases, so I have a deep knowledge of them. I managed the whole infrastructure of some projects including continuous integration, continuous deployment and cloud platform services as Heroku.

Software Engineer, with focus on Continuous Integr...

Australia - Last active: 01/04/2014 - Tests: 3

After a few years of working as a software engineer, I developed an interest in the concept of code quality - and the ability to place better guarantees on the work coming out of the development team using automated unit testing. As an individual, I can demonstrate that my code is testable, and executes given functional requirements within certain parameters across different platforms and conditions. As a team, existing and introduced bugs can be readily identified and corrected much more efficiently, and ensure that corrected behaviour remains in place for future releases. When mixed with a bit of agile development exposure, I found myself in the world of TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment, not to mention the opportunity to use some cool technologies like TeamCity, Selenium, and even some physical red/green build lights. Commit/build issues that previously took a day or more to find could now be discovered and fixed much more efficiently, before the developer had moved on from the code, and before anyone else got a hold of the broken build! I believe that agile development methodologies, combined with continuous integration and testing strategies assisted us in achieving these goals. Well-defined functionality and architecture supported by a thorough testing framework, both automated and human-based, helps us to get high-quality products out the door.

BI - Analytics: GoodData, Pentaho, Jasper, Kettle/...

United States - Last active: 10/02/2013 - Tests: 2

Most recently, my projects have focused on the development of scalable BI/Analytics/Reporting products in the heathcare domain, leveraging BI platforms such as GoodData, Pentaho/Mondrian/Kettle, and JasperServer. These solutions were built upon relational databases including PostgreSQL and columnar databases including Vertica and InfiniDB. In addition, I have additional experience using map-reduce tools such as Hadoop to perform analysis, data cleanup and ETL, as well as graph analysis and visualization using Gephi.

Experienced systems developer

Greece - Last active: 2 months ago - Tests: 3

I am a Masters in Computer Science, graduated from the University of Crete. My master's thesis topic is about parameterisable automated GUI generation from data structures using a dynamic language. My interests involve computational complexity, algorithms and algorithmic solutions which use high-level recomposition or problem reduction, graphic algorithms, low-level 3D processing, cryptography, theoretical development tools, theoretical studying and analysis of languages, as well as languages themselves, among many, many others. I have worked with all traditional and mainstream "system" languages (c, c++, java, c#), as well as "scripting" (ruby, Delta, javascript), and (even) functional languages (haskel, scala). I also have worked in many different fields of applications, ranging from a toy postscript resterizer, a couple of CPU simulators, byte-code compilers and virtual machines, interpreters, project-description translators (and therefor toy build-systems), tons of linux junior (and juvenile) administration and scripting, web-development (mainly in PHP and ruby), 2d games, 3d graphics (such as surface generation, texture mapping, lighting), peer-to-peer experimentation (a "p3p" chat client), cryptography, and probably even more that I cannot recall any more. I enjoy learning and using solely the latest (bleeding edge) technologies and methodologies. I particularly enjoy a lot researching common wisdom about specific topics, I enjoy splitting problems into topics about which there is wisdom to be found, and finally wishing to create new wisdom through problems that truly hit new frontiers. My ideal projects involve bits and pieces of such technological and scientific challenges, and are (ideally) about something "cool and interesting". I enjoy a lot talking out and figuring out common ground and specific arrangements which make everyone happy. Apart from computers, I am also a dancer, a mover, a thinker, a musician, a healer and a researcher. Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions, if you feel you need to validate any of my claims, you have an objection about what I ask in exchange for work, or simply to have a chat and get to know me.

Expert Software Developer

Portugal - Last active: 02/13/2014 - Tests: 1 - Portfolio: 3

Innovation, particularly in technology and software, is a theme of passion for me. Having worked within world class players such as Siemens and Nokia, I soon got addicted to the software world, that makes me strive for evolution and technical excellency. Having started in a more traditional corporate environment I soon discovered that the entrepreneurial spirit felt more meaningful to me, and allowed me to evolve faster and to better understand software evolution trends. Having co-founded 2 technology start-ups, and acting as the main evangelist and lead developer in both for years, I've had the opportunity to experiment and and acquire deep knowledge in state of the art technologies, languages and frameworks. Coming from a Java background and education, providing me with good knowledge of frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate, I now choose Ruby and Python as my weapons of choice when confronting a new problem. I have experience in web development in both Rails and Django, as well as a number of classic general purpose libraries for either of these languages (PIL, mechanize, beautifulsoup, pyglet, kivy, datamapper, dm-rails, carrierwave, devise, omniauth, capistrano, etc), which makes me comfortable in extending web applications to interact with domains outside of the traditional browser-webserver-database, as well as creating apps unrelated to the web. I also work on the frontend and, provided I have a designer that can produce the html/css, I can produce well organized Javascript and integrate this into working code in the web app very fast. I have several years of experience working in small to medium sized teams where I'm usually the resident expert in Git, which I have been using almost since it came out. I also know how to work with Subversion and Rational Clearcase if that is the source management system used by the project at hand. My main operating system is Ubuntu Linux, and I have a deep understanding of the inner workings of both debian-based linux distributions as well as redhat-based ones, including configuration of services required in production systems. This includes using automation tools like Capistrano and Ansible to automate provisioning and deployment of applications to eliminate human error an maximize uptime. I can also work in windows for projects that require it, including windows-centric technologies like C# and .NET environments in general.
