My Smarter account: http://smarterer.com/AndresBk I have been working with Ruby on Rails and friends (Sinatra, Cramp, Rack, Grape, etc) for 5+ years. For the testing, I use to use RSpec for backend (mainly) and Selenium for frontend. And for productions environmets I like to have a Jenkins machine or similar. I uses Unix/BSD systems for work and have some experience working on administration too. Also, Ruby is not my only programming language... I love C/C++ too. Besides technical descriptions, I love the good practices. For example, I like to keep separated the different environtmens (production, pre-production and development), to have differents DBs managed by different machines (each SQL server in a different machine, or at least, have production on its own setup).
I have recently graduated from City University with a First class honours degree in Business Computing Systems. My final year thesis involved in creating and executing a ruby crawler to elicit information from the popular social networking website MySpace.com. I have since had a keen interest in Ruby and am actively looking for opportunities to develop and broaden my skills in this emerging language. My project website can be found at [http://soi.city.ac.uk/~gx998/project/index.html] In addition to Ruby, I have also used PHP, JAVA, and MYSQL as part of my degree course and welcome any projects requiring these proficiencies . : http://soi.city.ac.uk/~gx998/project/index.html
I have experience in web development and linux systems environments, mostly using Debian or Ubuntu . I used to work doing desktop apps many years ago before to know free software technologies(yes, I used to work over Windows environment with VBasic, all people starts somewhere). After that, I used to work doing web development with Php, but nowadays I work 100% doing Ruby on Rails web development. Always trying to learn about new technologies, agile development and the right way to do things . I really love work with high traffic apps as social nets, Crm software and things like that. I am currently looking for new opportunities.
