Lead Software/Database Engineer and Senior Systems...

I have been developing software collectively for just over 10 years, with the bulk of my experience in the web domain. I have developed numerous public and private sector web applications serving a variety of purposes ranging from eCommerce and content management customizations to problem tracking systems and directory administration tools. I follow agile software development methodologies and have strong communications principles that ensure my customers are receiving timely updates and able to see rapid results on software projects. What sets me apart from other software engineers is I strive to utilize best practices for software development. These best practices include test-driven development, continuous integration, adhering to standards, not re-inventing the wheel, and documenting everything. While this results in spending a little more up-front time developing the software, I believe it is well worth it in order to leave the project in excellent condition so that it can easily be extended and maintained for years to come. My language strengths are PHP, C#, and Java with experience in the Zend and Castle MVC frameworks, PHPUnit, NUnit, and JUnit testing frameworks, and the Dojo JavaScript library. In addition to being an extremely skilled software engineer, I have honed my experience with systems administration as well. I am extremely skilled in administering both Windows and Linux servers, as I have been administering servers and operating systems for a combined 15+ years. I have in-depth experience with all Windows flavors, especially Windows Server 2000-2008, as well as Linux (Gentoo, RedHat, Debian, Ubuntu, SuSE, and CentOS), FreeBSD, Solaris, and VMware ESX 3.5-4.0. For all of these servers, I have experience setting up and designing OpenLDAP or Active Directory installs, file sharing services through Samba, AppleTalk, CIFS, NFS, and FTP(S), e-mail using Postfix and Sendmail, web services through Apache and IIS, and numerous database servers including Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. Finally, I strive to educate others with the information and experiences I have learned. I do this through community contribution at user groups, tech fests, conferences, and as a member of any team I'm a part of. LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/in/jmdots Summary I've worked in technical administration, technical support, customer service or leadership roles for all but a few months of my adult life. In this time, I climbed the ranks of a highly-modern, lightning-paced, large-scale, multi-OS supercomputing environment in Area B of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) and became an avid user of all things open source. The place which was my professional home of over six years is known as the “Air Force Research Laboratory DoD Supercomputing Resource Center” or "AFRL DSRC" for short. The AFRL DSRC environment is home to the #19 supercomputer on the June 2011 Top500 Supercomputer List, a mammoth computer for which I received training: Cray Inc.'s "Raptor" XE6. I enjoy excelling in the IT industry by working smart by doing my research, building wisdom and having fun. Systems Architect / VMware VCP5.x

United States - Last active: 2 months ago - Tests: 4

As an Enterprise Lead Systems Architect In my most recent job, I was directly responsible for the virtual architecture including but not limited to infrastructure design and deployment of a robust vmware multi-site architecture, the supporting network architecture, modular “siloed” clustered racks, NetApp 2240 and 3240 FAS/SAN systems, remote management and notification systems, and user provisioned lab environment that allowed test teams to provision physical and virtual environments on the fly. All systems were subject to DISA based STIGS and IA scans to verify compliance. As the lead, I directly manage several people on my enterprise team and my efforts touch every person on the project in some way. This interaction has allowed me to create a positive rapport with the entire team while keeping a thumb on several area perspectives. I also manage and assist with the install and design of our SharePoint /Project 2010 integration which upon completion was intended to pull in data from various sources including IBM Jazz Suite, custom built data management systems, and several real world diagnostic and filed measurement tools to display varying aspects of project progress and test data. This effort is still in progress and is coming along nicely. Also support the basic user needs including user account management, file share access and organization, PC issues, software installs and upgrades, and training. Finally, I worked with several integration efforts as an advisory capacity on COTS products that were used in fielded builds and R&D efforts. The infrastructure is comprised of 50+ Racked servers, 18 NetApp products, and several Cisco switches, routers, ASA’s and AirPort WAP’s etc… These resources are grouped in “Silos” and setup to be modular for movement to other sites as needed. I also designed and deployed our domain, complete with multiple DC’s that spread out DNS, DHCP, NTP, and AD with cross site architecture in mind allowing users to move from Lab to Lab with common resources and permission sets. I work directly with the network team and IA team on outward facing services to insure security and threat mitigation. I also run Facebook and Skype classes for the elderly with my company's outreach program. I'm versatile and well tempered and I have a decent network of helpful folks that i can lean on if things get tough. From Teaching to Fixing to Disaster Recovery and Risk Assessment Planning to Recording My Radio voice and Audio Editing Skills.. I have a deep bag of Tools. Let me use them to help you with your next project!
