Create a webapp using React.js for budding startup

“Aldo is pretty decent at getting some basic stuff done. That's the only good thing I can say about him. Everything else is a nightmare. When I first hired Aldo, he was pretty excited and adamant about working. I told him I was going to have to bring him on at a lesser rate for a trial period, and then work our way up. I've done this with many developers before and find it helps weed out the bad ones. He agreed and began work.A week later, he wasn't responsive so I reached out and asked him what the matter was. He said it was unfair that he was getting paid a small amount. He complained "I made a mistake joining this" but since I had liked what I saw, I wanted to resolve the issue. We agreed to a pay-bump that would run to the end of month before he got a full pay raise. I had to drop 2 other people to be able to afford his new rate. We talked in length about this and he said he was sure. I went ahead and dropped two other guys and he worked for a week. The next week later, he wasn't responsive again all week. I reached out to him and he said he didn't start work yet. I asked him why, and again, he says he made a mistake joining this project and feels "locked in". His main complaint were my two other backend guys weren't all that responsive the week before and thus he felt "locked in" and "made a mistake joining the project." His only saving grace was that he was "just being honest."When I got upset about the fact that I dropped two guys, raised his pay, and changed a bunch of strategies that take advantage of him, he told me he only worked 1 hr so what did I lose. Aldo seemingly does not understand business pressures that are not technical. He glamorizes his ability to code, but he's really just your average skill-level. Don't let him try to play you and make the same mistake I did. I should have kept him on the trial period and he would have discovered that he did not enjoy the project. I've managed ~10 freelancers over the course of my career. He was by far the worst mistake especially since the project is in a crucial stage. I do not recommend him.”
